I LIVE!
No, really...I do!
Today, I updated the descriptions of all of my current uploaded songs, and also tweaked my artist bio. Not much new information, really, but some of it was outdated numerically if nothing else.
My Violin Concerto is being premiered on 21 April at Carnegie Mellon; I should have a recording that very night, and will upload promptly. This is the first premiere I've had in over a year, and I'm excited!
I've decided that I'm going to be much more aggressive about having works performed. In order to get any prominence, one needs to not only have premieres, but also repeat performances. One can only get those by being tenacious and not letting go. So that's what I'll do. Hopefully I won't have to resort to "annoying," which a fellow composition major used to describe his own tactic! Though he has a publisher, so it must work...

I'm still alive. Or at least vaguely alive.
Since my last update, I've composed a song for soprano, viola, and flute to a text by Brian Jacques, and an octet for flute, oboe/english horn, clarinet, bassoon, two violins, viola, and cello. I also plan to edit my second string quartet in the hope of having it sightread, and I also will be arranging some Mahler lieder for string quartet and voice at the suggestion of the concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
I don't know how many of these things will end up being recorded. I know the quartet will if it's read, and I hope to have the octet performed in the fall. Nothing is certain, though. Just updating to show that there is the potential for more music showing up here.

Daah. I feel bad about hanging around here when I don't have anything new to upload.
BUT...I have something new uploaded!
It's called "Movement for Solo Clarinet" (I am creative with titles!), and it was written in October of 2003. I was assigned to be atonal and nonprogrammatic, but I fortunately discovered that one can be atonal while still being melodic.
This recording is of the premiere concert, 10 November 2003. The clarinetist is Seth Jones.

I finished writing my trio for viola, cello, and piano today. The first movement is already up on the site, but I should have the entire piece (three movements, probably about 10 minutes) recorded and uploaded sometime this summer.

New song! New song! Whoohoo! The classical section is not dead!

I have a feeling I'm going to be shot by more than one of the Hip Hop artists on this site.
And this somehow amuses me.

Holy crap, man!
I'm not dead!
And as I am having a piece premiered on the 14th, I shall have a recording to upload (GASP!) and perhaps I will resurrect the classical section as well!
Mwahahahahahahah!
Ha?

I'm not dead yet!
I feel happy!

And I do intend to be around more now. I've acquired a minidisc recorder, and will now be able to record all readings and performances of my music. That, coupled with being a composition student in a music school, should promise more music here soon enough.

Happy holidays, all!

Yeah. Logging in and seeing that my last journal entry was on September 11 was starting to get annoying.

I don't have anything to say, really. But you can go look at my graphic novel, Dies Personae. (http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~jlozos/days/)
